Edmund was a Private, Union, 89th Regiment, Illinois Infantry,Co G from Henry County, Illinoi, The Illinois archives states he was a deserter, however, he was in a hospital in Louisville, Kentucky when his Company departed. He was left behind and put in a different company when he was released from the hospital. 80% of the men in his old company died in the confederate prison camp in Andersonville, Georgia.
