Jennings was born in Habersham Co, GA to Thomas Dye and Sarah Lucy Pulliam.
Thomas Dye was born in Nov 1799 in Chester Co, SC and moved to Rutherford Co, NC shortly after he and his twin brother William were born, They were the sons of Henry and Anna Dye.
Henry died in Rutherford about 1808 and Anna Remarried to Casper Webber Sr.
about 1833-1839 Thomas moved his family from Rutherford NC to Habersham Co, GA, near where his father in law was residing Zachary Pulliam a Rev War Vet was living nearby.
Thomas's older daughters , Malinda Dye Bailey and Sarah Dye McBrayer were also nearby.
When William died in Monroe CO, TN about 1852 Thomas moved to his farm in Madisonville, Monroe Co, TN and took up his younger children, the older ones married.

Jennings served in the Union Army.
When the rebels came to town several boys were conscripted into the Rebel Army, Jennings was one of them, and he was reported AWOL by the Rebel Army, when he escaped he joined the Union Army and served there.
