Mary Frances Prevatte Barnes "Frances" was born Jan. 27, 1913, in Robeson County. She was the daughter of Richard Rhodes Prevatte and Eva Hanibal Atkinson Prevatte. She had three brothers, Lacy, Durham and Mace Prevatte.

She married Arthur Hicks Barnes in 1930. They had 3 children. Billy Hugh born in 1935, Arthur Richard born in 1940 and Eva Carol born in 1945.

Frances was an active member of Back Swamp Baptist Church in Lumberton, where she was a Sunday school teacher and church pianist.

Her husband Hicks died in 1984. She lost both her sons, Billy Hugh in April of 2000 and Arthur Richard in 2005. There are those of us who still love her and miss her...
