Charles E. Brookover, 67, of Parkersburg passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Marietta Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with melanoma cancer.

He was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Ernest and Resa Brookover.

Having lived in Parkersburg most his life, Charles served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the Masonic Lodge 172 of Vienna, Shriners Motorized Unit, American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg, V.F.W., Moose and Elks Lodge. He had worked for the Operating Engineers Local 132, was a councilman of Vienna, a former chief of police of Davie, Fla., and retired from the State of West Virginia Department of Highways.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann; his loving children, six daughters, Terry Purcell and husband, Bill, Margie Cyran and husband, Mark, Sharon Lemley, Kathy Barker and husband, Mark, Cindy Sims and Heather Brookover, and one son, Charlie and wife, Kim; and 13 grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Veronica (Ronnie); one brother, Elmer; and two sisters, Betty Norman and Rose Marie Lemon.

Charles will be sadly missed by his family and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home of Vienna, with Pastor Gordon Deer officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown with Masonic graveside services and full military honors by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and until time of services Friday at the funeral home.
