Funeral Services To Be Held Friday Morning
Joseph Meyer, Jr., 37, former resident of Pierz, was killed when the car he was driving failed to make a turn on a county road 3 miles east of Sauk Rapids early Sunday morning.
He had been in the village Sunday evening, accompanied by a friend, Frank Yager, and the accident occurred while on their return to St. Cloud where Joseph had been living the past seven years. His friend sustained no serious injury. The two men were the only ones in the car.
The accident took place in the vicinity of Silver Corners, where the road turns, close to a rural school building on its way to Gilman. The car took a five foot ditch but did not turn over.
Help was summoned by his companion at once but Meyer evidently received a skull fracture as he died instantly.
Joseph Meyer was born in Pierz [May 12], 1908 and reared in this community. He attended the local schools and was employed at Little Falls by the John N. Faust Beverage Co. and later by the Coca Cola Bottling Co. He then entered the employ of the Yager Plumbing Co. at St. Cloud.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Meyer who moved from here to Grand Coulee, Wash. several years ago.
He is survvied by his wife and parents, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Cornelia Buesseler, and Mrs. Roger Gallagher (Susan), both of Chicago; Mrs. James Henion (Eulalia), Midway, Wash; Mrs. William Bolster (Evelyn), Grand Coulee, Wash., Arthur, Portland, Ore.; Victor, Oakland, Calif.; Zeno, Santa Cruz, Calif.; and Clarice and Lois, at home.
The body has been shipped to Pierz where it will remain at the Joe Meyer home until Friday morning when the funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's church at 9 o'clock.
