Orvil Wayne Bylund, the second son of Earl and Flossie (Harvey) Bylund, was born March 20, 1923, at the family home in Guthrie County, Iowa. He attended the Viola Consolidated School as a child. Orvil left school and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 22, 1941. Orvil was united in marriage with Ione Ida Goodwin on November 9, 1942 by a Justice of the Peace in Maryville, Missouri. There were seven children born to this union; four daughters and three sons. Orvil worked hard his whole life and had several jobs including farmer, painter and mostly a carpenter during his career. He retired in 1985 and they returned to Coon Rapids in 1996. Ione passed away in 2003 and he mourned her loss and never really recovered. He suffered couple health problems during his last years including a heart condition. Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery next to his wife. Military honors were provided by the American Legion Post #357. Orvil was a Christian man and a member of the United Methodist Church, Carpenters Union, American Legion and V.F.W. and the Coon Rapids Masonic Lodge. He is survived by all seven children: Gloria, Sandra, Douglas, Thomas, Denise, John and Tamara; 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren. May he rest in eternal peace.
