The first we hear of Jacob is that he arrived in Damascus Twp./Cochecton Falls with brother Michael and sister Mary in 1800 to 1809, history books differ. They went along the banks of the Delaware River to Oliver Calkins log cabin about half way between Milanville and Narrowsburg, staying with and working for the Oliver Calkins family. If they arrived in 1800 Jacob would have been only 8 and Mary 4? In 1809 they would have been, 30,17 & 13. Histories do not mention the fathers name or whereabouts, but researcher Beverly Branning has connected them to William Brannan of Montgomery, NY. The named evolved to Branning in the 1800 to 1840 time frame.
The nearest neighbors were the early settlers the Lassleys. Jacob married in 1815 Lany Lassley granddaughter of John Lassley the Revolutionary War Soldier. They had 11 children 10 of them boys. Not included below are George B. 1824-1905, Catherine 1826- 1897, Alfred 1833-1889 and Chester 1837-1840.
