Mrs. MALISSA LEE, 98 former resident of Minersville, died in the Lincoln County Nev., hospital Sept. 1, 1949, of causes incident to age.
Malissa Kaziah Rollins Lee was born July 13, 1851, in a wagon box under a sycamore tree at Cajon Pass, Calif. Her parents, James Henry Rollins and Eveline Walker Rollins were camped there with a company of Mormons emigrating from Utah to California.
After returning from California the family settled in Minersville. At the age of 16 while visiting an aunt in Panaca she met John Nelson Lee and became his bride Dec. 30, 1868. They first lived in Panaca, later moving to Minersville. In the year 1877 Mrs. Lee was set apart as President of the first Retrenchment Society in Minersville. Today this organization is known as the Young Women's Improvement Association.
Returning to Panaca, Mrs. Lee was President of the Primary Association for 17 years. She also served as counselor in the Relief Society and in 1911 was named President of that organization. She and her husband served for two years as ordinance workers in the St. George Temple.
On July 21, 1914, John Nelson Lee died, and in October, 1921, she became the wife of Charles M. Heyborne, living in Cedar City for 12 years. While there she was active in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Mrs. Lee is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ida Hollingshead and Mrs. Charles P. Mathews of Panaca, and Ms. Warren Cox of St. George; three sons, Porter L. Lee of Caliente, John Raymond Lee of Brigham City, Utah and Lester Eugene Lee of Panaca; 58 grandchildren, 182 great-grandchildren; also two sisters, Mrs. Abraham Hollingshead of Bountiful and Mrs. Wallace Hamblin of Lyman, Wyo.
