In 1919 he married Frances Markward and moved to Dublin, TX where Frances had been residing with her sister, Ethel, and her husband, Atty. John Edward Hickman. Walter went to work at the Farmers National Bank in Dublin, which consolidated with the Citizens National Bank, and later with the Dublin National Bank, where Walter was Vice President. He was treasurer of the Methodist Church in Dublin for many years, a Scottish Rite Mason, and a veteran of both World Wars.
