Palava Pays Its Last Tribute To Victims of Crash

PALAVA, Oct. 26. - The largest funeral this Fisher County community has ever known was conducted this afternoon for Mrs. W. C. Godfrey, 67, and her son, W. E. Godfrey, 47, who were killed Saturday morning when their coupe, traveling west, collided with a truck on the outskirts of Mineral Wells.

Mrs. Godfrey and her unmarried son lived on the farm near Palava which she and her late husband bought in 1900. He died in 1924 and his wife and son were buried beside him today after a funeral sermon by their former pastor, Rev. H. C. Hanks, now of Paducah.

Hundreds of their friends were present, many coming from far points. Daughters present were Mrs. Wilma Huff and Mrs. Cad King of Arlington, whom Mrs. Godfrey and her son had been visiting when they began their fatal journey homeward. Another son, Tom Godfrey of Tulsa, Okla., also came here for the funeral.

Mr. Godfrey had never married. He was one of the best known farmers of Fisher county, and a member of the soil conservation committee under the new federal program.
