Ida Caroline (Gipp) Watne, 87, formerly of Ossian, died Friday, February 15, 1991, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

She was born August 26, 1903, in Frankville Township, rural Decorah, the daughter of Herman and Johanna (Hoth) Gipp.

Funeral services were Monday, February 18, at Ossian Lutheran Church, with burial at the Hillside Cemetery. The Rev, Wayne Ellingson officiated. Organist was Irmgaard Ellingson,. Iva Nel Monson was soloist, and she sang, "My Heart is Longing". Brockman-Hammersland American Legion Auxiliary were in honorary attendance. Pallbearers were John James, Gerald, Charles and Dean Gipp, Dale Mundt and Darrell Ott.

Ida Gipp was baptized in her faith at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Eldorado, and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. She graduated from Hyde Country School in Frankville Township. Along with her parents, she moved from the Herman Farm, four miles west of Frankville to Ossian in 1944, were she resided and helped care for her parents until their deaths.

She was later employed for several years as a cook in the Ossian Public Schools. She married Albert Andreas Watne, August 16, 1962, at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. They made their home in Ossian. She had been a resident of the Aase Haugen Home since May 9, 1988.

She was a member of the Ossian Lutheran Church, Sarah Circle, ALCW Ladies Aid and a member of the World War I American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by two brothers, Carl Gipp and his wife Evelyn of Parachute, Colorado, and Alvin H. Gipp and his wife Jeanette of Decorah, nine nephews, six nieces and several great-nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Albert, in 1983, two sisters, Hazel Foeller and Edna Mundt, one brother Elmer Gipp and one nephew.
