Rhoda was a real life "coal miner's daughter." After finishing high school, Rhoda worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Highway Department in Harrisburg for several years. She met [then] SSG Wilmer E. Rarick on a bus home and later, after a short courtship, they married in Sept. 1942.

An original "Army Wife," over the course of 20 years Rhoda lived at Fort Belvoir, VA, Cooper, TX, Glen Lyon, PA (during WW II), Tokyo, JP, Heidelberg, GE, San Francisco, CA and finally settled in Alexandria, VA.

Rhoda was active in Baptist Temple Church in Alexandria, VA. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of the Samuel L. Derby Unit 556 in Frewsburg, NY

For her 60th birthday, Wilmer bought her a pair of roller skates, an activity she continued until after her 90th birthday. At 90, she was featured on the "Today Show" and in the Washington Post newspaper for her rollerskating. She was forced to stop when the rollerskating rink she attended was sold and subsequently closed.

Rhoda and Wilmer had two sons and one granddaughter.
