He was killed by enemy action while serving his second tour of duty in Iraq. Among his military awards and decorations were the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat "V"; Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal; Combat Action Ribbon; Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

He was survived by his wife; and two daughters.

Interment on July 22, 2015.
