John Wesley Moody Wade was born in Auraria, Lumpkin Co., Ga., the son of Joseph Berry Wade (1815-1877) and Sarah Medely Odell Wade (1822-1908). His father was a gold miner in the first gold rush in the United States in Lumpkin County. The family moved from Georgia by ox-drawn wagon to East Texas in 1869 and most of the family lived for a time in Kaufman County but moved on to Upshur County, Texas. John married Missouri C. Woodhouse (1844-1911) in Kaufman Co. on 25 Oct 1874 but they had no children before his death. She remarried John Leslie Stafford and is buried in the same cemetery.
