Sadie Frances Ellan Bobtail Bear, 16, of Little Eagle, had various accomplishments in her life.

Sadie graduated from Standing Rock Headstart in May 1997. She entered into kindergarten at McLaughlin Public School where she attended school until her freshman year in 2006.

When she was in elementary school, she played on the girls' basketball team and was on the honor roll. She was chosen to participate in the 2001 Miss Teen South Dakota and won numerous awards. Her favorite sport was volleyball. In 2005, she attended the Lakota Nation Invitational Tournament in Rapid City. The Lady Midgets placed third in the tournament. Sadie had a second chance to attend the Lakota Nation Invitational Tournament after transferring to Standing Rock High School in 2007. The Lady Warriors volleyball team placed fourth in the tournament. Sadie enjoyed this achievement in her life.

Sadie had a great sense of humor, especially with her brother, sister and extended family. She came from a very close-knit family where her cousins were considered to be more like brothers and sisters. Most of all she enjoyed spending time at her Grandma Bingo's house with all of her cousins. She also enjoyed spending time with friends, listening to music, sewing and talking on her cell phone. She was highly knowledgeable with computers and the Internet.

Sadie died June 14, 2008 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Her Native name was Kimimila Ska Win' or White Butterfly Woman.

Sadie was born on October 20, 1991 to Verdell and Ann (Long Feather) Bobtail Bear in Bismarck, N.D.

She was baptized at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in 1991.

She is survived by her parents, Verdell and Ann (Long Feather) Bobtail Bear of Little Eagle, brother, Saul Thomas, sister Sierra Mae; maternal grandmother, Edith Long Feather, uncles, Tom and Ron Long Feather, aunts, Cheryl Long Feather, Lila (Roman Silk) Long Feather, Melinda (Bill) Mutchler and cousins Thomasine, Margaret, Marietta, Mason and Gertie Long Feather, Nupa and Samuel Long Feather, Kelsey and Ashley Mutchler, Laura and Romaira Silk, Deandra, Lyanne and Dace Bobtail Bear and a special friend John Davis.

Her grandmother, Joan Red Fox, grandfathers, Thomas Long Feather Sr. and Arnold Dog Eagle, uncles Louie Bobtail Bear and Samuel Long Feather preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Sadie were held Monday, June 23, 2008 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Little Eagle. Fr. Rob Schwartz and Deacon Beatrice Skinner officiated. Gladys Hawk was the organist. Readers were Patti Dedman, Gayle Henry and Margaret Hawk. The Running Antelope Singers were the Drum Group.

Casketbearers were Tom Long Feather Jr., Ronald Long Feather Sr., Bill Mutchler, Roman Silk, Paul Bobtail Bear and Evan Bobtail Bear and numerous aunties and uncles.

Burial was at the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

All night wake services were held Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the church.

Sadie will be greatly missed but never forgotten by her family and friends.
