Mrs. Speltz, Miss Catharine Kohner before her marriage, was born at Granville, Wis., March 1, 1862 and moved to a farm in the town of Norton with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Kohner in the fall of 1866. She spent her girlhood days here and in the spring of 1886, she was married to J. M. Speltz of Rollingstone. They made their home on a farm about 1 1/2 miles northwest of the village. Mr. and Mrs. Speltz retired to Rollingstone in 1917.
Six children were born to them. Mr. Speltz died Feb. 28, 1923, and a son, Edward Speltz, and a daughter, Mrs. William Guidinger died some time ago. She is survived by two brothers, John N. Kohner of Altura and Henry Kohner of Rollingstone; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Rietz of Winona; her step-mother, Mrs. Emma Kohner, her daughter, Mrs. Charles Feltes of St Charles, and three sons, Frank Speltz of Rollingstone, Leo Speltz of Eston, Sask. Canada, and Gerald Speltz of Wabasha.
Mrs. Speltz had been an invalid for about 12 years, being afflicted with arthritis. She had made her home with her son, Frank Speltz but recently spent several weeks at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Feltes of St. Charles where she died at 1:30 p. m. Saturday.
