On Mar 11, 1888, he married Effie Strable, who survived him.
He was blinded by glaucoma for his last 10 years. John loved to travel and on one of his trips he bought several acres in North Carolina that had turpentine trees on it. At the same time several other Liberty Twp. people also bought land and moved out there.
