Final rites were, said Saturday afternoon for James Mark Ashley, 66, who died at a Jackson hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Ashley moved to Mt. Olive from Smith county several years ago, where he won many friends in the community. He was a prominent retired farmer, member of the Baptist church, and active in civic affairs before illness forced his retirement.
Funeral services were held from the Zion Hill church near Mize, with Rev. Quincy Sullivan officiating. Interment was in the Alex Sullivan cemetery, with Mims Mitchell in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Syndy Chain Ashley, one sister, Mrs. Lula Craft of Mt. Olive, and one brother, G. I. Ashley, of Collins.
Pall bearers were Ford Chain, Gabe Chain, Vardaman Chain, Theron Chain, George Geriner and Harvey Tanner.
