STUBBLEFIELD, Martha J. JEFFERY – Mrs. Martha J. Stubblefield, mother of Mrs.
Dora Stubblefield Woodruff , a member of the faculty of the Bentonville high school, died at the family home on West A street shortly after noon Tuesday, January 17, 1928 at the age of 86 years. Death followed an attack of the flu from which her frail system could not recover. Funeral services will be held from the home Saturday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. following the arrival of B.J. Stubblefield from Portland, Ore. The services will be conducted by her pastor, Rev. O.A. Fortune, assisted by Rev. A. W. Henderson. Interment will be made in the Springdale cemetery by the side of her husband, W.R. Stubblefield , who passed on about ten years ago. Three children survive her: Mrs. Dora Woodruff of the home address; Elmer Stubblefield of Wichita, Kansas and Byron J. Stubblefield of Portland, Oregon, all of whom were present at the funeral. Mrs. Martha Jeffery Stubblefield was born August 9, 1841 in Waynesville, Ill. She was the oldest of seven children and the last one to pass away. She was married April 30, 1861 to W.R. Stubblefield and lived for many years in McLean, Ill. They went to Kansas in 1880 and located in Coffeyville. Later they moved to Springdale in the year 1908. Following the death of her husband in 1917 she came to Bentonville with her daughter, Mrs. Woodruff, which place has since been her home. She was a woman of fine character and a devoted Christian, joining the M.E. church at an early age. The past few years she showed a patient spirit all through her infirmities.
