Clifton Bennett Masoner was the son of William Scott Masoner and Laura Bell Bennett (hence Clifton's middle name of Bennett). Clifton was a Staff Sergeant during World War II in the Eighth Air Force and served during the 2nd World War in Europe.
In 1942 he married Louise P. Weiss, a daughter of a German immigrant named Charles Weiss and Rebecca Jane McCay, in Rantoul, Champaign County, Illinois. This was Louise's 2nd marriage as she married a man named Carl Ellig in 1930. That previous marriage produced two children, namely Jan. E. Ellig (b. 1932) and Beverly Ellig (b. 1936). Clifton and Louise did not have any children together.
