Clinton Stetson was born in the State of New York, and at an early age his parents moved to Michigan and then to Wis. where the family of 12 grew up. Clinton Stetson taught school in the middlewestern states when quite a young man. In 1849 he joined a group of young men who had decided to make a fortune in the gold fields of Calif., working there for several years, he thought Oregon would be a good state in which to build a home. He took land on the Walla W. River, which was called the "Tumalum". Homesteaded 160 acres and lived there until his death in 1872. He raised fine stock and at the time of his death his farm was well stocked with cattle and horses. Signed Susan Stetson Kees, Walla Walla, Wn. Dec. 11, 1937.
