Jerald J. "Jerry" Schad, 77, Bloomington, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday (June 18, 2008) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, surrounded by family.

He was born March 7, 1931, in Bloomington, the son of Lloyd and Nerine Fisher Schad. He married Donna Zellmer Mears on July 28, 1995, in Pekin.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Donna; two sisters, Donna Andrews, Juno Beach, Fla., and JoAnn Metling, Oakdale, Minn.; one brother, James (Judy) Schad, Burbank, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are four stepchildren, Suzanne (Mark) Apple, Gainesville, Fla.; Bruce Mears, Bloomington; Steven (Vickie) Mears, Roscoe; and Jay (Melissa) Mears, Downers Grove. There are five stepgrandchildren, Jon and Melissa Apple, Adam Mears and Jayson and Nicholas Mears. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roger, Perris, Calif.; and one sister, Betty Anderson, Little Canada, Minn.

He graduated from Normal Community High School where he lettered in four sports. He attended Illinois State Normal University. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1950 serving aboard the USS Pittsburg until October 1954. He owned the Piccadilly Bar/Plaza Liquors for 24 years prior to his retirement in 1999.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge 475, Elks Lodge 281, American Legion 56 and was a lifetime member of VFW 454. He also was a former member of the El Paso Golf Club. He enjoyed all sports.
