SMITHFIELD – James Watson White, 64, died Sunday, July 15, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk. A native of Isle of Wight County, Mr. White was a retired brakeman for C&O Railroad, Newport News. He also drove a truck for Roland Spady & Henry Laden. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Northside Church of Christ, Newport News. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Leggett White; three daughters, Evelyn White Bell of Smithfield and Patricia White Jarvis and Wanda White Pope, both of Portsmouth; one sister, Bertha Mae Gardner, and two brothers, George T. White and Otis S. White, all of Smithfield; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Colonial Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Varga and the Rev. Russell O. Leonard. Burial will be in St. Luke's Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight in the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Renal Kidney Foundation, 1890 N. Main St., Suite GO3, Suffolk 23434.
