George Troy Braswell, 90, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006. After 40 year of service, he retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding in Ship Repair Sales. Mr. Braswell was a member of Benn's United Methodist Church and a former member of Smithfield Lion's Club, James River Country Club and the Carrollton Ruritan Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Audrey Braswell. Survivors include two sons, George Troy Braswell Jr. of Williamsburg and Phillip W. Braswell of Chesapeake; two brothers, Philip Braswell of Wilmington, N.C. and Eugene Braswell of Rocky Mount, N.C.; Five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A life celebration service was held on Friday Dec. 22 at 10 a.m. in Benn's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Burgess officiating. Burial followed in St. Luke's Memorial Park. A reception in the family's honor was held at the church following the burial. Memorial donation can be made to Benn's United Methodist Church, 14571 Benn's Church Blvd., Smithfield, VA 23430. Arrangements were in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield.
