SMITHFIELD—Roger Albert Girard Jr., 47, of Route 4, died Monday in Riverside Hospital, Newport News. A native of Fall River, Mass., he was a retired manager from Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in Plattsburgh, N.Y. after 20 years of service. He was a member of Catholic Community Church in Smithfield, Knights of Columbus-Suffolk Council No. 7363 and George F. Dashiell American Legion Post 49. He was past 4th District Commander for the American Legion and a neighborhood watch coordinator in Isle of Wight County. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Patricia Ann Girard; two daughters, Mrs. Janine Marie Merry of Concord, N.C., and Miss Laura Rose Girard of Smithfield; six sons, Senior Airman Roger Albert Girard III of Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, Spec. 4 Maurice Patrick Girard of Fort Devens, Mass., and Lawrence David Girard, Richard Joseph Girard, Mark Alexander Girard and Christopher George Girard, all of Smithfield; his mother, Mrs. Rose C. Rebello of Fall River; and four grandchildren. A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Colonial Funeral Home by the Rev. Christian Haydinger and the Rev. Terry Cyr. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. Luke's Memorial Park, Isle of Wight. A Christian wake will be conducted at 5 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad.
