SMITHFIELD – Mary Katherine Austin Ware, age 88, of Lumar Road, died Friday, May 9, 2003, in Riverside Convalescent Center, Smithfield. She was a native of Marshville, N.C., and a housewife. Mrs. Ware was a member of Benn's United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Her husband, Edgar Marlyn Ware, preceded Mrs. Ware in death. Survivors include daughter, Peggy W. Gnieski and her husband, Joseph, of Smithfield; son, James W. Ware and his wife, Terri, of Rescue; four grandchildren, Leland Gnieski and his wife, Tracy, Shelly G. Jones and her husband, Kenneth, Randy Ware and his wife, Sabrina, and Matthew Ware and his wife, Kristina; 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, in Benn's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 11, in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Benn's United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 14571 Benns Church Blvd., Smithfield, VA 23430. Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, is handling arrangements.
