While in Washington County he became known as an owner of fine bred horses and as a general authority on racing qualities in a horse.
His widow lives on the farm near Tillamook and the following children survive: Mrs. George Bacon and Mrs. Charles Miller of Forest Grove; Jesse R Tompkins of Gaston; James W. Tompkins and Mrs. N. Myers of Tillamook.
