SMITHFIELD — Thomas F. Hearn Sr., 76, of Kerr Place, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2001, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was a native of Suffolk, and the founder and past president of Hearn Furniture. Mr. Hearn was a charter member of Wilroy Baptist Church, Suffolk, and a member of Smithfield Baptist Church. He was a board member and past president of Flynn Fellowship Home and a board member and past president of the Suffolk Retail Merchants Association; and a member of Smithfield Kiwanis Club. Mr. Hearn was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving in World War II in Saipan and Guam. His parents, John T. Hearn Jr. and Jimmie Askew Hearn, and his wife, Hilda Pierce Hearn, preceded Mr. Hearn in death. Survivors include four sons, Thomas F. Hearn Jr. of Smithfield, Craig M. Hearn and his wife, Nancy, of Newport News, Stephen M. Hearn and his wife, Carrie, of Windsor and Charles G. Hearn and his wife, Denise, of Suffolk; sister, Ina Claire Doane and her husband, Bruce, of Rockford, Mich.; six grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Allison, Corey, April, Craig Jr., Lydia and Cole; and great-grandson, Lane. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Smithfield Baptist Church with Dr. Donald Rhoton and the Rev. Jim Tate officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield.
