The parents were from Ohio, the father from Delaware county, the mother from Champaign county, and came to Whitley county in early life, where they lived until 1873, when they moved to Kansas, where they remained until their deaths. They were members of the Baptist church. Fifteen children were born to them: Eliza, Jane, Elsie, Melissa, Luther, Rosie, John, Minerva, Andrew, Ida, Lillian, Esther, Dellie, Elmer and Elmus (twins).
