DAYTON RESIDENT OBSERVES 100th BIRTHDAY FRIDAY

DAYTON - Friends of Mrs. Jennie Hinman gathered at Grandview Care Center here Friday to help her celebrate her 100th birthday. Joining in the festivities were Mrs. Hinman's daughters, Mrs. Bill Dutcher, Dayton, and Mrs. John Kinsey, Pilot Mound.
A niece, Mrs. C.C. Townsend of Sheldon, Wyomin, was also present. A family celebration will be held Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Hinman has 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Wearing a new dress in the bright spring flower colors that she loves, Mrs. Hinman was obviously pleased with the party, and blew kisses to her friends and family.
Mrs. Hinman has always loved animals, and has taught many of her pets to do trickes. Among these were a horse she taught to stand on a tub, turn around and shake hands; and a Pekingese dog that would climb on a box and say The Lord's Prayer along with her. Her most recent pet was a parakeet that she taught to talk.
Mrs. Hinman was born and raised in Ridgeport, and she and her husband farmed until his deathe in 1941. She lived alone until she broke her hip in 1972, and she has been a resident of the care center since that time. A son, Duane was killed in France during World War II.
Although 13 residents of Grandview Care Center are more than 90 years of age, this is the first time one has celebrated a 100th birthday.

-Newspaper clipping from the scrapbook of Helen Ray

PS - Where the article mentions the death of her son in France he actually died of influenza, which he got before he even shipped out, but he wanted to stay with his unit. He undoubtedly never left the ship, since he was ill.

After Arthur died, Jennie married his brother, Charles.
