Born August 22, 1921, in McGaheysville, Virginia, he was the son of the late Earl E. Moore and Lena Hinkle Moore. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vallie Byrd Moore; a grandson, Jeffrey Scott Moore; and a sister, Nancy Bacon.
C. R. was the owner/operator of C R Moore Well Drilling Company Inc. in Charlottesville. He was a second generation water well driller as his father, E. E. Moore, founded the family business in 1930 in the Valley. He was known far and wide, as was his father, as an honest, hard-working man who had very high standards and expected everyone else to have the same.
He and his wife were one of the first six families to build at Lake Monticello, a graduate of McGaheysville High School, he was a United States Army veteran of World War II serving in France and England, a life member (50 years pin) and past Commander of VFW Post 1827 in Charlottesville, a founding member and past Chief of the Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Loyal Order of the Moose, Church of the Breth-ren, the National Water Well Association, and the Virginia Water Well Association.
Surviving him are two daughters, Janice Woodson and her husband, Ray, of Mineral and B. Diane Moore of Palmyra; two sons, Lanny L. Moore Sr. and his wife, Joan, of Keswick and Robert E. Moore and his wife, Gail, of Scottsville; five grandchildren, Lanny Lee Moore Jr., Mark Moore, Michael Ingalls, Wendy Ingalls, and Angela Davis; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Randy, Zachary, and Charlie; a sister, Elizabeth Cook of Harrisonburg; and his special buddy, his little dog, Shadow.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2008, at the First Baptist Church, Park Street with Dr. Lindsay Sadler officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2008, at the church.
