Neil Kirsten, a native of Michigan, devoted much of his life to helping the many friends he made as an investigator for social service agencies in the Detroit area. Neil attended Cass Tech High School and the University of Detroit followed by serving in the army signal corps during WWII and then working for the Ford Motor Company and Detroit Edison prior to embarking on a long career in social services. Throughout his career as a caseworker and investigator, most recently working with the Family Independence Agency of Wayne County, he befriended and assisted members of the Detroit Police, Wayne County Sheriff's department, the FBI, the Secret Service, and US Postal Inspectors. He was like law enforcement's best friend. In the course of fulfilling his duties with the state he could help police bring fugitives to justice. Neil was a voracious reader and was well known in the local bookstores.
Neil suffered a hip fracture at his home in Westland and never recovered from the resulting surgery and impending loss of his independence.
Preceded in death are his parents and both his brothers Carl Jr. and Bruce.
Neil is survived by six nephews and a cousin Clair Kirsten Tilton.
