My Aunt Mae was born in Libertyville, MO on a rural farm, and spent her girlhood in the area. When she was older she moved to Farmington, and worked at Trimfoot shoe factory for years until she retired. Aunt Mae never owned a car, and walked everywhere in Farmington. She had a trunk full of ribbons won for her preserves and cakes she took to the St Francois county fair. Aunt Mae was known by everyone as a very industrious hard working person. She spent numerous hours volunteering at her church and at the senior center.

When I was a small girl, I used to spend several weeks every summer visiting my aunt in Farmington. It was a big treat for a girl who grew up in the city to get to come to the "country".

I still miss my Auntie Mae.... I can't come to the town of Farmington without being hit by a strong feeling of nostalgia. I know you are up in heaven bossing everyone around and keeping things organized. I can't wait to see you again.
