Ruby Mae Parkhurst, 93, of Mattoon, formerly of Humboldt, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2008 at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon.

Ruby was born May 28, 1915, in Pylan, Mississippi, the daughter of Carl and Stellar Williams Harp. She was united in marriage to Martin T. Parkhurst on Feb. 18, 1932 in Macon County, Tennessee. He preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1973.

Survivors include one daughter, Hilda Orndorff and husband Jack of Humboldt; 3 sons, Wendell Parkhurst and wife Helen of Charleston, Lloyd Parkhurst and wife Kathy of Elwood, Charles Parkhurst and wife Sherri of Edmond, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 11 step grandchildren; brother, Roger Harp and wife Eva of Gordonville, Texas.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Phillips; 2 brothers, and 1 sister.

She was a member of the Zoar Primitive Baptist Church in Cooks Mills. Ruby and her husband, Martin, ran a grocery store and later were in the upholstery business. She loved to quilt and crochet in her leisure time. Ruby was a loving person and enjoyed being around her family. She will be greatly missed.
