Woody W. Furney, 64, Anderson, died June 19, 2008, at Community Hospital, Anderson.

He was born Dec. 2, 1943, in Chelsea, Ala., and lived in the Anderson area for 42 years. He was employed for 39 years for General Motors, retiring in 2003 from the receiving department.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, woodworking and his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time on the houseboat.

Woody was an eye donor, and two people received their sight because of his donation.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Deborah (Turner) Furney of Anderson, whom he married in July 1993; daughter, Tina (Chris) Hite of Anderson; stepson, Brian Gary (Leah Hazelbaker) and stepdaughter, Dawn Stigall (Landal Smith), all of Anderson; two sisters, Rena Smith of Gulf Shores, Ala., and Juanita Chavis of Chelsea, Ala.; six grandchildren, Laci Gary, Lance Gary, Haleigh Hite, Taylor Groves, Austin Stigall and Caden Hite; and a niece and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Ozelle (Kendrick) Furney; and two brothers, Donald Furney and Craig Furney.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with the Rev. Jeff Matas officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
