Anna Laura Collier, 94, of Earlysville, beloved mother and precious grandmother, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001. She was born Nov. 19, 1906, daughter of Bez and Gurney Morris of Dyke.

She is survived by one devoted son, Otis L. Collier and his wife, Maxine, of Dyke, and three loving daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Morris and Mrs. Janett Shifflett of Earlysville, and Mrs. Kathleen Hutchinson of Charlottesville.

She will always be cherished as "Grandma" by 19 grandchildren and as "Grandma Laura" to 50 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Collier also is survived by three brothers, Mr. Clarence Morris and Mr. Onnie Morris of Stanardsville, and Mr. Ollie Morris of Earlysville; as well as two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Morris and Mrs. Vergie Shifflett, both of Charlottesville.

She was preceded in eternal life by her parents; her beloved husband, George Wesley Collier; a daughter, Frances Vernell Collier; two brothers, Alfred and Reese Morris; two sisters, Mrs. Gracie Powell and Ms. Claire Morris; two grandsons, Larry Morris and Steve Shifflett; a great-grandson, Scott Shifflett; and a great-great-grandson, Cameron Morris.

Mrs. Collier was a faithful member of the Nortonsville Church of God congregation, where her late husband was a charter member. Her life was a testimony to her love, service and devotion to Christ, her family and friends. She will be missed for even this short separation, but we rejoice with her at the reunion she is now attending.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and many patients of Heritage Hall in Charlottesville, who expressed their love and kindness in so many ways to our mom and grandma Laura during her four years with them. We were honored and comforted to see their genuine caring and affection for her.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at Nortonsville Church of God. A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the church, led by Pastor David Allison. Interment will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Nortonsville Church of God Building Fund. Ryan Funeral Home of Quinque is in charge of arrangements.
