Charles John McCourt, 78, retired farmer of Edwardsville, died at 5:50pm Friday (May 15, 1964) in Hepburn Hospital where he had undergone surgery for a peptic ulcer that morning.

Until a few years ago, Mr. McCourt had been assessor for the town of Morristown for almost a quarter of a century.

Surviving are his wife, Hattie, one daughter, Miss Mildred McCour, a teacher in the Hammond Central School, who resides at home; and one sister, Mrs. A. (Susan) McIntyre, North Syracuse.

The funeral was today at 2pm at the Nichols Funeral Home. The Rev. J. Vincent Crawford, minister of the Hammond Presbyterian Church, officiated. Burial was in the family plot in the Edwardsville cemetery.

Charles John McCourt was born at Lennoxville, Que., July 19, 1885, the son of Joshua and Jane McE. McCourt. The family moved to Edwardsville when he was a young boy. On Dec 28, 1904 he married Hattie Brown of Edwardsville, at the home of her parents, which was across the road from the present McCourt farm. The Rev. A. D. Wright, pastor of the Lutheran Church at Cedars officiated.

Mr. McCourt had farmed at the present homestead for 50 years, retiring two years ago. Intermittently also, he had worked in the general store at Edwardsville and at Redwood.

He attended the Hammond Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Cedars Grange 676.
