Wilbur E. "Gene" Black, 73, of Windy Hill Road, Shermans Dale, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
He was born Sept. 13, 1931 in Tennessee to the late Ralph D. and Katherine V. (Stump) Black.
He was an Air Force retiree, serving during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War; owner/operator of a service station in Lemoyne until the 1972 flood; an over-the-road truck driver and a member of Teamster's Local 776; and an antique car enthusiast, an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, birds and other wildlife and cooking for his family and friends.
Surviving are a companion of 39 years, Loretta A. Neill of Shermans Dale; three daughters, Loretta A. Hocker of Duncannon, Lynda K. Shultz of Wheatfield, Ind., and Lori Black of Maryland; two sons, Kevin and Glenn Black, both of Maryland; a brother, Paul Black of Maryland; four sisters, Helen Houser of Charlestown, W.Va., Dorothy Poe of W.Va., Betty Possidente of Maryland and Patsy Black of Tennessee; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary W. Neill, and a brother, Gus Black.
A memorial service was held Dec. 2 in Shermans Dale Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Graybill officiating.
