Frank D. Armstrong of Camp Hill, PA, died June 11, 2008 at 11:40 p.m., at Select Specialty Hospital of Central PA, after a lengthy hospitalization and illnesses.
Frank was born August 10, 1932, in Lock Haven, PA, reared in Newville, PA, and Paxtang, son of Frank D. and Mildred Shenk Armstrong. He was a graduate of John Harris High School, Class of 1950, and Gettysburg College in 1954. He also attended The Pennsylvania State University.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Joan Town Armstrong. Frank worked initially for the Insurance Company of North America, then purchased the Paul N. Garret Insurance Agency, where he was CEO until he sold it to The Noyes Agency in 1986.
Frank was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Highland Park, a 50 year member of the West Shore Country Club, Harrisburg Civil War Roundtable, Camp Hill Historical Society, Perseverance Lodge, F&AM, Zembo Shrine and Blue Lodge, former member and past president Harrisburg Kiwanis, former member and past president Professional Independent Insurance Agents (PIA), member of the Governor's Insurance Commission on Products Liability, member and past president Salvation Army Board, member of Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce, and other numerous public boards and commissions.
Frank is survived by his wife, Barbara Hetherington Armstrong; daughter, Patricia Armstrong Huey (Robert B.); sons, Frank D. Armstrong, Jr. and William P. Armstrong; step-daughter, Wendy Seaman Merchant (Thomas G.) and grandsons, Thomas G. Merchant, Jr. (Meghan), and Jonathan William Merchant.
Interment will take place in the Newville Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 24th in Grace Lutheran Church, Highland Park.
