Wendell was born in Ashland Missouri, but lived most of his life in Hepler, Kansas with his wife, Julia Catherine Westhoff. They were married December 26, 1938. They had three children. A daughter, Mary Katherine, died shortly after birth. Their two sons were Charles and Francis. Wendell owned and operated the Sapp's Garage in Hepler, Kansas for many years. He was an honest, kind, and caring man. He was a member of the Hepler Ruritan Club. He enjoyed working the concession stand for the 4th of July Rodeo in Hepler. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was well respected in his community. He died of colon cancer at Mt. Carmel Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Kansas surrounded by family and friends.
