Born Jan. 20, 1927 in Murray, UT to Thomas K. and Lillie M. Berger Baker. She married Orval Max Matthews Aug. 16, 1946 in Bennion Utah.
Irene was a loving, caring person who made anyone feel welcomed in her home. Her family was her life.
Irene worked at the Cottonwood Hospital for over 20 years after raising her family. She served in the LDS Church as Primary secretary for 16 years.
Surviving are: husband, Max, son Verl and Sue Matthews, all of South Jordan; daughters, Nola and Walt Shewmake of West Valley, Marla and Brent Heineken of Alaska, Maxine and Dave Filton of Sandy, Diane and John Mitchell of West Valley, 25 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, sister Mary Olsen, brothers Bill and Ray Baker.
