STONY POINT William Chester (Check) Beckham 87, of 237 Lefate Ln. died Sept. 4, 2000, at Alexander Community Hospital.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday at Stony Point United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Clontz officiating. Burial will be in Stony Point Cemetery. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the church and at other times will assemble at their respective homes.
Mr. Beckham was born on July 28, 1914 in Alexander County, son of the late Thomas Franklin Beckham and Mary Etta Combs Beckham.
He was retired from Champ Refrigeration in Charlotte and was a member of Stony Point United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Earnhardt Beckham; and one sister, Nell Millsaps.
Survivors include his stepson, Eddie Miller Jr. of Denver; one daughter, Hilda Shaver of Charlotte; one brother, Frank Beckham of Stony Point; one sister, Sue Stikeleather of Stony Point; three grandchildren, Earnest Shaver Jr. of Smyrna, SC, Pam S. Smith of Charlotte and Melia S. Gadd of Richburg, SC; two step-grandchildren, Alex Miller of Denver and Christy Miller of Denver; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
