Joe was son of Henry Lathrom and Addy Lissy Lunsford. He married Orlena Jo Gaither 26 Feb 1891 at Rayborn. Joe was given the 640 acre farm of his father's on Whetstone Creek. He and his family lived on this farm and the first three children were born there. Then, Joe was elected county recorder in 1896 at which time he moved to Hartville, Missouri and the remainder of the children were born in big house that they lived in two blocks west of the intersection of Missouri highways 5 and 38. It is on the northwest corner of the intersection and was called "Sunny Crest" by the family. Joe stayed in Hartville after his term as recorder was over and was hired by the Bank of Hartville where he was an official for several years. After he lost a lot of his money in the banking operation, Joe sold the house in Hartville and returned to the farm on the Whetstone where he died a short time later.
