Gordon R. Franke, M.D., 71, of Fort Wayne, former Allen County Coroner, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002.
"He was a devoted husband, father of five and grandfather of four."
The Fort Wayne native modernized his office's procedures during his two terms and advocated public safety improvements to prevent fatalities. He was a recipient of Pat Griffin Award from Fraternal Order of Police for his efforts toward improving the welfare of Fort Wayne law enforcement officers. He had served as emergency room physician, was in family practice and a long-standing member of Parkview Hospital staff.
Surviving are his wife of over 30 years, Barbara; daughters Laura Bradford, Amy Myers, Abbie Fellrath and Courtney Ulrey, all of Fort Wayne; a son, Eric of Madison, Wis.; his mother, Alma M. Franke of Fort Wayne; sisters Nancy Talbott of Fort Wayne and Susan Neuhaus of Auburn; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Mass of Christian Burial is noon Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church, East State Blvd. and Randallia Drive, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday with a 8:30 p.m. vigil service at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road. Burial will be at Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are to National Multiple Sclerosis Society Chapter for Research or the family.
