William Leroy James, 81, a retired postal worker, passed away Friday, June 29, 2007, at home surrounded by his family.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at Handley Church of Christ, 3029 Handley Drive, Fort Worth. Burial: Emerald Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Emerald Hills Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m.

William Leroy James was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Fort Worth to William Thomas and Kate Mae James. He grew up in this area going to R. Vickery Elementary School, Jennings Avenue Junior High and Paschal High School.

He was a strong warrior for the Lord working at Handley Church of Christ for the past 35 years.

He entered the Navy Aug. 20, 1943, serving his country until March 25, 1946. After his Navy days were over, he married the love of his life, Eva Joan Moss, Aug. 22, 1946. He started working for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1980.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Eric Mims and the staff of Alpha-Omega Hospice for the special care and love given to Leroy during his illness.

He was preceded in death by his son, Bill James; brothers, Phillip Wayne and C.T. James; and sister, Brenda Winters.

Survivors: Wife of over 60 years, Joan James; children, LeAnn Tindel and husband, Fred, Johnny James and wife, Kim; grandchildren, Ronnie James, Richard James, Jay Tindel, Jeff Tindel, Carter James and Courtney James; great-grandchildren, Tanner James, Sam James and Charlie James; brother, Richard D. James; sister, Dorthy Bowen.
