Anna Nancy was born in Fort Plain, Tyron County, NY. She was the daughter of William Fox and Anna Eva Loucks. She was a babe in arms at the time of the battle of Klock's Field. (The story is told that a servant girl carried Nancy from the church and placed her on a pile of rocks. Her mother rescued her and ran back into the church.)
After her marriage to Conrad Near II they lived in Montgomery County. In 1820 they are found in Madison County. By 1830 they are in Vernon, in Oneida County. Their 4 youngest children (1810–1813) were baptized in Oneida County. They also lived for a time (about 1833) in Chautauqua, as they owned land there. All their children were born in New York. Some time after 1833 they moved to Livingston County, Michigan.
The last census to show Anna Nancy is in 1850, at age 72. The last census to show Conrad is 1860, at age 87.

We believe the 2 small markers "father" and "mother" beside the daughter's (Siba Grisson's) stone are those of Conrad and Anna Nancy Near.
