WHITE, LILLIE MAE STOREY - Mrs. White Mrs Lillie Mae White, 75 E Elm St, widow of Olin White, died at 1:40 am today in St. Joseph's Hospital following an extended period of failing health. She had been seriously ill for two months and was taken to the hospital less than 24 hours before her death. A skilled seamstress, Mrs. White had been employed at the old Portnoy Garment Co, for a number of years previous to her retirement in 1953. She had resided in Alton for 37 years, moving here from the Roodhouse area, where she was a member of the Baptist Church. The former Lillie Mae Storey, she was born Nov 25, 1887, in Morgan County. Her parents were the late Mr and Mrs William Storey. Her husband, to whom she was married in 1903, in Oklahoma, died in 1950. Survivors are six daughters, Mrs Roberta Coats and Mrs Mary Kohney, Godfrey; Mrs Edith Ahern, Mrs Helen Gussing and Frieda White, Alton, and Mrs Opal Wheeler, Bethalto; a son, John, Jacksonville; two brothers, Harry Storey, Des Moines, Iowa, and Stanley, Stuart, Fla, a sister, Mrs Lizzie Waters, Jerseyville; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral rites will be conducted Thursday at 2 pm in Gent Chapel by the Rev JE Camp, pastor of North Alton Baptist Church. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park. Visitation hours at the chapel will be from 7:30 pm today until time of the funeral.
