Roy D. Gladfelter

GLEN ROCK - Roy D. Gladfelter, 89, died Thursday morning, December 29, 2005, at the York Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of Gertrude I. "Gertie" (Myers) Gladfelter, who passed away on July 28, 2005.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2006, at Greenmount United Methodist Church, 4242 Greenmount Church Road, Glen Rock, with his pastor, the Rev. Richard Lowe, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewings will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, January 1, at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the church. Masonic Services by Shrewsbury Lodge #423 Free and Accepted will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Gladfelter was born on June 27, 1916, in Codorus Township, a son of the late Ralph D. and Gertrude (Sterner) Glatfelter.
Mr. Gladfelter and his wife had owned and operated Glatfelter's Store in the Pierceville area of Glen Rock for over 52 years, and had farmed in the Codorus Township area. He was a life member of Greenmount United Methodist Church, and of the Church Cemetery Association; the Shrewsbury Lodge #423 Free and Accepted Mason; 13th Ward Republican Club of Hanover; and Voters Hall of Fame of York County. He was Republican Committeeman of the Codorus 1st Township for over 50 years, and served as President of Casper Glattfelder Association of America for numerous years.
He leaves two daughters, Janet L. Conley of Glen Rock and Darlene M. Hale of Manchester, Md.; two sons, Roy Dwight Gladfelter of Spring Grove and Kermit A. Gladfelter of York; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two grandsons, John E. Hale, Jr. and Brent Donovan.
