Mervin was a life long farmer and helped to organize the Hancock County Cattle Feeders Ass'n in early 1950. He proudly served his country in the U.S.Army serving in the occupation force in Japan from 1946 to 1948. Merv was a original builder and co-owner of the Johnny Appleseed Bowling Lanes and Restaurant and The Sycamore Springs Golf Course both of Arlington. Merv was also a member of the local American Legion, VFW, AMVETS, and Elks. He was a member of Arlington United Methodist Church since 1944. Funeral, was held at Crates Funeral Home Arlington, with Pastor Harry W. Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery, with the Hancock County Veterans Squad presenting full military honers.
Merv was a very loving, and giving man that will be highly missed by all. I've heard many of stories from people that he took time out of his busy day to help. If your car broke down, he not only would stop, but take charge of the whole problem, and get you on your way, and would not except anything for his time or service. His service to the Domestic Violence Shelter, was way and above the duties of a volunteer. Merv had a heart as big as Texas.
