"Gone but not forgotten"

Wife of D.H. Vining

Obituary-
Lake City Leader Jan 22, 1874
VINING - Departed this life, Jan 15th, at Florence, Roxy, wife of D.H. VINING, aged 54 years, 4 months and 23 days.
The subject of the above was born August 23, 1819, in Pennsylvania; was married to D.H. VINING, June 1st, 1839, by whom she had eleven children, six of whom are alive, four of said number having married, leaving the two youngest, a son and daughter at home.
On the 10th day of May 1855, they emigrated to far Northwest (so considered at the time), and landed at what was then called Kelley's landing, and selected for a home the location where they now reside, near the village of Florence.
For the last fifteen years she has been a suffering invalid, yet amidst all of her deprivations and trials subsequent to a pioneer's life she ever set forth a Christian example worthy of imitation. Three years ago she was severely sick; every moment for twelve hours was thought to be her last but contrary to all expectations she recovered. For the last two months she has appeared to enjoy an uncommon degree of good health until last Thursday, when she had an attack of congestion of the lungs, during which time she was unconscious of her sufferings, thus passing away unexpectedly like the mist before the rising sun. By a request of her own made some time ago, she was interred alongside some of the members of the family in their private grounds.
Rev. Mr. Heard, of Lake City, performed the last sad rites, amid a large concourse of friends and neighbors. So may we like her be ready when the Master calls.
